Founded in 1937, the National Environmental Health Association is the leading professional organization for Environmental Health practitioners. In late 2014, the organization determined that its web resources were growing increasingly disorganized, disconnected, and difficult to manage. They released a formal RFP seeking a qualified vendor with the right credentials to help them update their web technologies, with a mind to consolidating their e-commerce, CRM, and PR/communications functionality within a single, easier-to-handle, unifying platform.
Portland Webworks was selected as a "best value" offeror from among nearly 30 other prospective onshore and offshore vendors. Our professional developers audited the organization’s existing resources and infrastructure, and then proceeded to guide the customer through an comprehensive user-centered design process, which entailed extensive research, business analysis, and interviews with stakeholders and end users. Based on our findings, our team members helped the organization to define a final scope and proceeded to implement a Drupal-based solution that would meet the distinctive and varied needs of the organization's many constituents. Given that this included professional members, industry partners, funders/investors, media representatives, and regulatory authorities, a clear and easy-to-use information architecture and content structure was high on the list of requirements. The project also incorporated custom module development to integrate Drupal with NEHA's association management system, NetForum. Finally, we developed a fresh and attractive theme that would be accessible, modern, responsive, and precisely in-line with NEHA's messaging strategy.
The impact of the modernization initiative accomplished by our team was immediately apparent. The updated site introduced a new navigation structure, search features, blog and forum features, internal and external content management workflows, and additional application-like functionality that supported NEHA's committee operations and annual award nomination processes. End users are delighted with the new and streamlined site appearance, reporting frequently that the are now able to find information more easily and intuitively.
