Portland Webworks Wins W3 Award

2009 W3 Awards: Silver Winner.

The winners of the 2009 W3 Awards have been announced, and Portland Webworks is pleased to have been awarded a Silver Award in the Tourism category for its work on the visitmaine.com website for the Maine Office of Tourism.

The W3 Awards, run by the International Academy of Visual Arts, received nearly 3,000 entries in 2009, and so being selected as a winner represents a tremendous achievement. According to Linda Day, the executive director of the IAVA, “We were incredibly impressed by the quality and creativity of this year’s entries. W3 winners continue to set the bar in Web development and design, push the limits of web advertising creativity, and advance the use of web video.”

Once again, Portland Webworks President, Justin Davis is quick to share this accolade with those at the Maine Office of Tourism who provide the day-to-day leadership in the State’s marketing efforts. “It is motivating to work with a group [like the MOT] who recognize the huge potential the web offers for destination marketing organizations. According to tourism research firm, PhoCusWright, the web is second only to family and friends in terms of providing inspiration for destination selection, so it makes great sense for the MOT to devote so much effort to marketing the State online. We feel that this award, as well as our earlier Magellan Award, are validation of this strategy”.
